All About BMW Cars
Car enthusiasts the world over will be familiar with the name and significance of BMW. Also known as Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, BMW translates to ‘Bavarian Motor Works’ and is one of the most important German car manufacturers of all time. Founded in 1916, the company has grown and grown with new models and subsidiary companies to own not only MINI cars, but to be the parent company of one of the most prestigious car manufacturers in all time and the head of a name synonymous with luxury: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Not content with merely conquering the car world, the company also has two motorcycle brands known as BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna.
The logo of the company tells you a lot about its original calling, with the blue and white sections signifying the propeller of a plane as it moves through the sky. Founded by Franz Josef Popp, the BMW brand began manufacturing aircraft engines and soon began making a range of motorcycles in 1923, leading onto car production in the period of 1928-29. Engines were made for the Luftwaffe and the company became an important part of Germany’s war effort.
Bought and leased BMW cars as we know them today tend to be sedans and coupes. In 1962 they began making the New Class, starting with the 1500 model and continuing through the 1970s with their production. Their sportier two door models attracted worldwide followings and the 3 Series became an instant hit in the performance car market. The 7 Series is currently their main executive car, while their 6 Series is a luxury coupe and convertible for real sports car fans. Their SUVs offer a unique all-wheel drive system and belong to a class BMW call ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’.
All in all, this is a car manufacturer that has long represented luxury and outstanding performance in the car market.
